Janine Johnson, the Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Anna, revealed earlier this week that she is transgender. Known more widely as “John Johnson”, she has been attending planning and zoning meetings for the past four years as a male.
Texas Senate Bill 6 (SB6), better known as the “Bathroom Bill”, was her motivation to come out. SB6 will advance to the full Texas senate after 13 hours of public comment in which over 400 people gave emotional testimony – mostly in opposition to the bill.
Janine is the second city leader in Collin County to come out as transgender recently. In January the Mayor of New Hope, Jess Herbst, also came out as transgender.
