The LA Pride parade usually occurs on June 11th, which happens to be the same day the national LGBT Resist march is scheduled in several other cities. After local activists pushed for the parade to be replaced with a march to coincide with this effort, the decision was finally made to officially cancel the parade and replace it with a resistance march.
The Facebook event, which at the time of this posting has 8 thousand people marked as going and 23 thousand more interested, continues to pick up steam.
The march route would take protestors down a 3.1 mile path down La Brea Avenue, turning onto Santa Monica Boulevard and ending at San Vicente Boulevard, the entrance to the Pride festival. According to WEHOville, up to half a million people are expected to participate in the march.
