The Texas “Bathroom Bill” SB6 which would require transgender citizens to use bathrooms, changing rooms and locker rooms in government buildings that align to their sex at birth is on the senate agenda today. The senate convenes at 2 pm.
Earlier this month, a Senate committee approved the bill 8-1 for a full Senate vote. It is expected to pass the senate and move on to the House of Representatives. Republican House Speaker Joe Straus has publicly voiced opposition to the bill, which is considered a major potential roadblock for its supporters.
If the House passes the bill, it is unclear whether Gov. Greg Abbott stands as he has been largely neutral but civil rights advocates are concerned that he will sign if the bill reaches his desk.
